Big declines in Atlantic Salmon leads to questions about what happens out at sea

Concerns about the big decline of the iconic Atlantic Salmon in Britain's river systems are leading scientists to investigate what happens to this iconic fish while it's out to sea, with, on average, only 3% of fish leaving the river returning to spawn and this figure has regularly dropped below 1%. If the decline continues, wild Atlantic salmon will disappear from UK rivers in the next 30 years.

Futurebuild 2020

The built environment industry can influence the resilience, sustainability and quality of homes, buildings and elements of infrastructure and cities. Registration has opened for Futurebuild 2020 with a call to industry to act now if we are to successfully tackle the challenges facing us all. By joining the event from 03 to 05 March at ExCeL London, visitors will be able to unite with industry innovators to tackle climate change and become the catalyst for change that's so greatly needed.

Futurebuild brings together over 27,000 decision makers from across industry and no other event gives you access to such a concentrated number of specifiers and active buyers. These forward-thinkers and mobilisers need you to help them make the changes which will shape the future of the built environment.

futurebuild 1The knowledge programme and exhibition will unite to provide education and solutions to address the biggest challenges facing the built environment, in six sections Buildings, Energy, Infrastructure, Interiors, Offsite and Resourceful Materials.

Martin Hurn, Event Director at Futurebuild, explains: "We have never been under more pressure to act. The UN's World Meteorological Organisation has just announced that the concentration of climate-heating greenhouse gases has hit a record high and it's clear that action on the climate emergency to date is having no effect on the atmosphere. It has therefore never been more important for industry to come together and act now. Without radical thinking and true collaboration, we will fail."

Futurebuild 2020 will provide a platform for professionals from across the built environment to debate issues, discuss new technologies and push-forward game-changing innovations that are so urgently needed. These innovations will be brought to life across the renowned CPD accredited knowledge programme, deep dive workshops and the immersive exhibition of leading brands and organisations.

futurebuild 2Setting the agenda
The agenda setting Futurebuild 2020 conference will follow a three-day progression; with a central theme of how to respond to the climate and ecological crisis facing us and make a real change.

With the central Conference Stage featuring politicians, academics and industry shapers discussing and debating the biggest macro level issues, six Keynote Stages across the event floor will look at the specific challenges impacting Building, Offsite, Energy, Interiors, Resourceful Materials and Critical Infrastructure. Solution-driven sessions will share the latest thinking and research, to educate, inform and inspire visitors to make a positive change.

Beyond the stages
Around each Keynote Stage there will be an exhibition of innovative brands, offering unique solutions to the challenges discussed in the companion knowledge programme. The exhibition will feature some of the largest headline brands in the sector, alongside SME's and start-up organisations.

Across the exhibition, brands and organisations that are leading the way will be recognised through the Innovation Trail. Guided trails will take visitors on a journey through the event and immerse them in the latest thinking from the Innovation Partners which include ACO Technologies, Geberit, Lumi-Plugin, Steico and Hadley Group.

futurebuild 3The game changers are back
With innovation key to the event, Futurebuild 2020 will see the return of the Big Innovation Pitch. Hosted in conjunction with BRE as technical partner, the competition will be the industry's largest call-out for innovation to date and will identify and celebrate novel new approaches to some of the biggest challenges facing us all.

With the general consensus that we must act now if we are to avoid an irreversible climate crisis, a game-changing Arena programme has been announced for Futurebuild 2020 focused on transforming the industry to achieve a resilient and truly sustainable environment.

The three-day programme's central theme is how we now respond to the climate and ecological emergency facing us all. With discussions and debate led by politicians, academics and industry shapers, the programme is a catalyst for the change that is needed across the built environment.

High profile speakers include Rory Stewart, London Mayoral Candidate; Roger Harrabin, BBC Environment Analyst; Baroness Brown of Cambridge DBE FREng FRS, Deputy Chair of the Committee on Climate Change, Clive Lewis, MP and Sir James Wates.
